Technical documentation for mobile devices

Friday, July 26, 2013

The Siemens Building Technologies Division has updated the app for accessing its Download Center (DLC) containing technical documents. In addition to the iOS app, a version for Android devices is now available. These two apps allow installers and service technicians to conveniently access more than 20,000 documents from the Siemens Building Technologies and Low and Medium Voltage divisions, using a smartphone or a tablet. Support for documents from other divisions is in the works.

Major new features of the updated app include default settings. These allow you to preset filters that limit searches to a specific division, topic or language. Users have different options to search for documents. In addition to classic keyword and full-text searches, there is also a category search that finds documents on a specific topic. Depending on the default setting, the app displays a selection of the latest data sheets and brochures right at startup. It also saves successful search queries and generates lists of suggestions for future searches.

Located documents can be displayed in different views (e.g. page view or an overview of all pages), e-mailed, marked as favorites for later reuse, or saved to the device. To keep stored documents up to date, they can be updated by request.

The apps for iOS and Android can be downloaded free of charge under the name "Siemens Download Center" from the Apple App Store and Google Play. The user interface is currently available in German, English and Swedish; additional language versions are in the works.
