YARMOUTH, Maine–The level of sophistication of mass notification systems at U.S. colleges and universities varies widely, with many still utilizing "rudimentary" systems, according to a white paper from Siemens, which is a provider of mass notification systems.
The study looked at a random sample of 77 Clery Act reports submitted in 2010 by schools throughout the country: 34 private schools, 31 public schools and 12 community colleges. Enrollments ranged from 1,000 to upwards of 100,000 students.
