Fire Safety Innovations

Continuous innovation provides the basis for increasingly perfect protection for people, buildings, equipment, machines and data. For decades we have been the driving force behind further developments in the area of fire detection technology, from basic research to practical solutions.

Siemens has been behind many milestone innovations in fire protection and building security, including the first automatic fire detector, algorithm technology, a genuine alarm guarantee as well as radio-controlled fire detectors.

At the international Security & Fire Exhibition (Sfitex), Sinteso was decorated with the ‘Standard of Safety’ Award in the category ‘Security and Fire Alarm Systems’. The exhibition took place in St. Petersburg, Russia in October 2008.

The Siemens “Inventor of the Year” award honors 12 outstanding researchers each year.

Kurt Müller, 63, of Zug in Switzerland, has increased the flexibility of infrared motion detectors, thus reducing the incidence of false alarms. These detectors are used to protect properties against intruders. In addition, for a new series of fire alarm systems Müller invented an improved type of flashing light which is visible from any angle and also features low power consumption.

At the international exhibition "Paragoalarm/Pragosec", Siemens was awarded for the Sinteso S-LINE neural combined fire detector. The detector is part of a modern system of electric fire signalization that ensures reliable fire protection and that is deployable in a wide range of applications.

The new Sinteso system was nominated as finalist for the prestigious Fire Industry Innovation Award.

In 2004, with a newly developed analysis technique, Siemens took fire detector technology an important step further. The Sinteso fire detectors have a number of sensors which are linked with intelligent evaluation technology. If, for example the curtains catch fire in a hospital ward, two separate optical and thermal sensors register smoke, heat and the particles streaming into them. The system analyses the signals, evaluates them and assesses the situation. False alarms are thus virtually excluded.
