GAMMA Instabus at the European Patent Office

Munich opts for advanced electrical installation

Patents are levers for innovative developments. Thus it was logical for the European Patent Office to take advantage of advanced electrical installation and building management systems – such as that afforded by GAMMA instabus – for its services.

European Patent Office

The Munich-based European Patent Office (EPO) grants over 50,000 patents every year. The electrical installation at the EPO has now been completely refurbished. The Alpha range distribution technology proved as convincing as the Beta protection switches and the Gamma instabus building system technology. Now when rooms are expanded or their functions are changed, these modifications can be easily reprogrammed with KNX. The decentralized marshalling rack equipped with Gamma instabus load switches proved to be an ideal solution.

In addition to load switches and dimmer actuators, the DALI digital system was used in conjunction with KNX to control the lighting system in the electrical installation. Now, 64 DALI-compatible lights can be switched and dimmed individually via the KNX/DALI interface. Given that the building has more than 5,400 lights, significant savings can be realized with needs-based switching and constant light controls. The heart of the electrical installation with Gamma instabus is its visualization system, with fault report management, lighting control, and a database for operating times and energy consumption.
