Desigo contributes to PUMAVision
Demand-based control system in Puma's new headquarters provides optimum energy efficiency
Pumas' headquarters in Herzogenaurach, Southern Germany, are the first climate-neutral company headquarters in the sports goods industry. For a highly energy-efficient building, Puma relies on the building automation system Desigo, which covers all maintenance units.
Puma aspires to encourage sustainable and eco-friendly operations as part of the PUMAVision. To turn this vision of sustainability into a reality its headquarters, the renewable electricity must be used extremely efficiently and the heating, ventilation, cooling, lighting and shading systems must work together as effectively as possible. The thermally activated building structure (TABS) requires very sophisticated hydraulics and control functions and, in addition, the room automation concept has to be able to accommodate varying temperature requirements. This forms the basis for the entire Desigo automation and control system and regulates the TABS and the heating and cooling functions via the concrete ceiling. It also controls the individual facade-mounted fan convectors and heaters to produce a comfortable temperature for the occupants.
The Desigo automation concept for the energy-efficient building was planned and implemented by IPM from the town of Feucht in South Germany. IPM used pre-tested macros from Desigo which can be individually customized for the TABS and room controllers. The principle of the system is that only the heat, cooling and air which is actually needed to create a comfortable environment is used. All consumers of heat are measured and controlled by Desigo PX automation stations. The control system is accompanied by comprehensive energy management functions which cover every aspect from room level up to the units producing heating and cooling and ensure that the system operates demand-based.
