Comprehensive risk management at the Shell research center
Building security is top of the agenda at the Shell Technology Center in Amsterdam. Total Building Solutions – ranging from the fire detection system to video surveillance (CCTV) – make it possible to manage the entire 80,000 square meters of the premises centrally.
The new, ultra-modern Shell Technology Center Amsterdam (STCA) unites the formerly separate laboratories of the research center for sustainable energy solutions in a single building. Moving the technical installations was an incredibly complex process, which placed extreme requirements on building security, requiring almost 900 interface tests just to check for potential faults. Siemens rose to the challenge with Total Building Solutions.
The Total Building Solutions project involved various interlinked security, management and control systems, and it all began with the fire detection system. All the data arrives at the central control room via various networks and circuits. Video surveillance (CCTV) allows the operators to monitor all the critical components and access points of the facility.
